It would be foolish to deny that AI is changing every aspect of our lives, from the simplest morning query to decisions worth millions. In this new landscape, where few companies are being left behind, concepts that once seemed set in stone are being redefined.

That shift also affects DMSs, forcing them into a fundamental role. Systems that bolt on AI just to follow the trend will ride the wave for a while, but dealerships need tangible results.
Why do we talk about DMS.AI?
The concept of DMS.AI goes beyond adding a button with the typical little stars to generate some text; DMS.AI means this technology becomes part of the system’s DNA, working behind the scenes (in the backstage, so to speak) to deliver what managers and owners are actually after:
More efficiency, lower costs, and better results.
In the survey we ran on how managers and owners perceive AI, we found a curious result—a gap that serves as a starting point for examining the relationship between “what we need” versus “what’s being offered to us and what we’re buying.”
What we see in this chart contradicts reality, where most solutions aim to replace human-to-human interaction in something as personal as selling vehicles.
The concept of DMS.AI certainly does include this type of solution, but it serves a bigger purpose:
- Being part of the DMS, not another add-on (and another invoice at the end of the month).
- Using real-time data, not requiring file uploads (spreadsheets, day after day).
- Having a measurable ROI, not just a promise of potential results.
- Eliminating repetitive tasks that add no value, not replacing the human contact that does.
- Working as a unified whole.
AI is a huge opportunity to speed up tasks, free up time, spot trends, and save money—and it’s in the backend (perhaps the least “flashy” part) where it will make the biggest impact. Chatbots will surely keep improving, but right now we’re talking about an application that generates more pushback than results.
